The family of Austin resident Pierre Shelton has filed a lawsuit against the Oak Park Police Department, claiming that a police chase of a motorist on March 9 resulted in a car crash that killed Shelton and his girlfriend, Joy Tyus.

The passenger of a vehicle struck by a motorist fleeing police near the intersection of South Boulevard and Ridgeland Avenue on the night of March 9, has died as a result of his injuries, according to Oak Park police.

Oak Park police arrested Kadrion Gipson, 21, of the 1600 block of South Harlem, Berwyn, at 9:34 p.m. on March 10 in 5900 block of West Walton Street, Chicago, and charged him with committing an armed robbery that took place about half an hour earlier in the 500 block of North Harvey in Oak Park.
