Reprinting Tabula is not 'OK'

Opinion: Letters To The Editor

June 12th, 2019 10:08 AM

I am writing to express my opinion on a Boy Scout requirement and the OPRF yearbook. I believe that it is not only stupid to thrust the financial burden of reprinting the yearbooks on the taxpayers, but it was also stupid to reprint the yearbook in the first place. It was reprinted as about 20 pictures contained people making the "OK" hand symbol.

This symbol is misinterpreted as a symbol of white supremacy by many, who are clearly all extremely stupid. The use of the symbol for white supremacy stemmed from 4chan, where they made it all up to prove that most media outlets don't research anything and will eat up any B.S. they think will make a good story. I ask you to try and find any person of color who is legitimately, sincerely, offended by this symbol and doesn't understand that it is a common symbol used in the "circle game".

I disagree with the decision to reprint the yearbooks in the first place, let alone use tax money to do so.

@ Lanie - so why don't we send him/her/it a bill for $54,000.00 payable in 5 business days. Transferring dollars from one tax generated account to another is just fraud - keep your eyes on the shinny object while I pick your pocket.

Thank you so much. As a photographer for the yearbook this brought me so much joy. There is one person who I can think of who is against the okay sign and that would be the one person who started all of this. Thank you guys for sticking up for us. The money came out of our refurbishment section. This means that the real kinda problem or roaches is going to stay.

It would be interesting to see if any graduating seniors returned their year books as a statement in protest of the lack of free speech. Just like Les Golden posted the 1930 art murals at the middle school should not be painted over, because they show the truth as to what Oak Park was lke3 in the 1930s but have kids make new murals across from them showing Oak Park in the 2020, this could all be a unique learning experience.

Well said Mr. Zeh. I agree. Now any symbol - no matter how benign - is up for grabs. The sheer stupidity of the D200 administration and others have actually empowered the dolts at 4chan and those of similar ilk, to in the future, commandeer anything they wish by having the guilt ridden progressives essentially do their dirty work for them. Mean while they laugh as they watch the progressive fools run around like chickens without their heads. What manufactured outrage is next?

I wouls have suggested that the board ask the publisher to rebind 50-100 books with the offending pages removed. Make those books available for exchange for any student who is offended. My bet would be none of the books would be claimed. Perhaps a couple would be taken just to prove how stupid adults can be. Good kids put this book together who are disillusioned by progressive old folks back stabbing.
