Memorial Day is typically a time for members of the Oak Park and River Forest community to come together. There’s the parade in River Forest. And the gathering in Scoville Park which celebrates the sacrifice of military members.
Neither will take place this year due to COVID-19.
The parade was cancelled weeks back. But despite the pandemic, the Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest has pivoted to host a virtual Memorial Day celebration.
According to a press release, Brian Flora, who is a volunteer at the Oak Park-River Forest Museum, is going to host a virtual ceremony through the Zoom video conferencing application. Members of the community can join the remote festivities with the following meeting info:

The release also went on to say this:
“If you are interested, please join Senator Don Harmon, the History Singers, Abraham Lincoln, Army Chaplain Kerstin Hedlund, and others as they pay tribute to our veterans. Author and historian Kathryn Atwood will deliver remarks that reflect upon the end of World War II, 75 years ago.”
The ceremony will start on May 25 at 10 a.m.
