An Oak Park man was beaten and robbed in the 1100 block of Washington Boulevard sometime around 9:15 p.m. on April 19.

Oak Park police report that the man was walking eastbound when he was approached by three young men who struck him several times in the head. They removed his black and white high-top Vans shoes and fled in an unknown direction.

The estimated loss is $60.

The three men were described as black and in their late teens and 20s. The first was about 5-foot-10 with a thin build and wearing a Gucci hat with a red and green stripe, a black Nike coat with white stripes and blue jeans. The second robber had an average build and wore a red coat. The third was 6-foot with an athletic build.

Helen...Yes, I am painting with a broad brush. Unfortunately, 2,000 characters is hardly enough space for me to get into the details. I should also add the federal government has incentivized single parenthood, locked up hundreds of thousands of black men for minor drug offenses, etc. Undoubtedly, the deck is stacked against them. It still doesn't remove personal responsibility from the equation. With that, you and I were probably fortunate enough to have parents and a very different upbringing. I may have a different perspective since I work in Englewood with black youth and see things most probably don't.

Mike: It does indeed flow upward in Cook County, but probably not in the way that you believe. Cook County Dems reap the rewards of their extreme corruption and fleecing of the taxpayer. Otherwise, the "redistribution" flows downward, as evidenced by the city and county's skyrocketing violent crime rates, including robbery and carjacking; and as condoned by the triumvirate of Toni, Kim and Tom, who are proud of letting violent and repeat offenders free.

Ramona- A rather broad brush you paint this picture with, isn't it?

The spillover we see in Oak Park, is a result of the decades long disinvestment by Chicago in the black community. Crappy schools, crappy housing, crappy infastructure, etc, etc. etc.

Look at economics over the past 35 years, and it's pretty evident that the only redistribution of wealth that occurs in this country flows upward.

The increase in muggings, robberies and car jacking in Oak Park must be affecting retail shops and restaurants. Any numbers on decreased business??

Yes Alex, I agree. A small price to pay indeed, if required to preserve the larger core principle of "redistribution of wealth".

Nothing to see here, folks. Simply "redistribution of wealth" in action.
