Master craftsman

November 27th, 2018 2:33 PM

Robert (Bob) Carney, 65, of Oak Park, died on Nov. 10, 2018 after a brief but serious illness. He grew up in Chicago in the vicinity of Wrigley Field and consequently became a lifelong Cubs fan. He was also a sportsman, first as an accomplished bowler and then as a golfer. Early in life, he followed his talent and gift and became a Master Carpenter. It was his joy and dream, living in Oak Park where he indulged his great love and appreciation for traditional woodworking and craftsmanship.

In 1999, he launched his own business, Acanthus Remodeling, and created wonderfully crafted spaces. He will be greatly missed.

Bob Carney is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his children, Erin and Neil; his mother, Evelyn Carney; his siblings, Carol Hautzenrader (David), Edmund Carney (Gail), and Kevin Carney (Karen); and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Memorial services will be held on Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at Oak Park's Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, 405 S Euclid Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family has created a GoFundMe site for donations to cover medical and education expenses and plan for future needs.
