Beat the Streets Chicago will host The Beat the Streets Brawl, a new, premier wrestling competition that features powerhouse high school wrestling teams and a clinic led by Illinois wrestling legend Tony Ramos.
It's a wrestling event not to be missed.
Five nationally-ranked teams will take to the mats at 11 a.m., Sat., Jan. 12 at the historic Oak Park River Forest High School Field House in Oak Park, Illinois.
In this super quad are top teams from across the country: Bergen Catholic (NJ, 2018 #2 in U.S.), Lake Highland Prep (Fla., 2018 #7 in U.S.), Poway (Ca., 2018 #10 in U.S.), Montini Catholic (Ill., 2018 #4 in U.S.), and Oak Park River Forest (Ill., 2018 #24 is U.S.).
Each team will face all four opposing teams. The five rounds of wrestling are scheduled for 11a.m., 1p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. The event is open to the public. General admission tickets are $10, which includes all rounds of wrestling.
Youth wrestlers of all skill levels are invited to join earlier in the day for a kids wrestling clinic led by Tony Ramos, NCAA Champion and USA World Team member. He will be teaching BTS Chicago-endorsed skills. The clinic runs from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. Registration is open now for the limited slots.
The event also will include special exhibition wrestling from two of Chicago's local wrestling stars, Kamal Bey and Ellis Coleman. They battle each other at 7:00pm.
"This is an unbeatable opportunity for young athletes to learn from Tony Ramos and then watch some of the most explosive high school teams in the country," said BTS Chicago Executive Director Mike Powell. "In addition, the tournament supports our mission of promoting and providing top quality wrestling programs in the Chicago area."
Tickets for the Beat the Streets Brawl main event and the Tony Ramos Youth Clinic can be purchased in advance at btschicago.org/btsbrawl/ or at the door. A limited number of VIP tickets are available, which include reserve seating, lunch and other benefits.
For fans interested in watching the wrestling online, the Beat the Streets Brawl will be broadcast through BTS Chicago partner Trackwrestling. The event will be available through both live stream and archived video for a subscription fee of $14.95. Information on how watch the event online and follow these teams is available at trackwrestling.com and btschicago.org.
Proceeds from The Beat the Streets Brawl support Beat the Streets Chicago youth programming and scholarships.
