RF library temporarily closes

The River Forest Public Library is aiming to re-open on February 7, after its boiler failed during the deep freeze last week and caused pipes to burst.

Francisca Arnold, marketing and public relations specialist for the library, said she did not believe the burst pipes damaged any books, only the institution's mechanical systems were impacted. The library's sprinkler system was affected and, as of press time, were still waiting to receive a replacement part. "We cannot open without a working sprinkler system," she said in an email.

The library currently has a generator in place. Its insurance is expected to cover the repair costs beyond its deductible.
