Oak Parkers are getting geared up for the holiday shopping season, and two new temporary stores – Out of the Box Art Market and Yearbook Studios – are popping up in the area.

More than a dozen artisans from Oak Park and the Chicago area will be selling their wares at a holiday pop-up store in the Hemingway District through Christmas.

Out of the Box Art Market will is located at an empty storefront at 133 S. Oak Park Ave.

John Putnam, an Oak Park potter who is organizing the pop-up market, said the shop will feature the work of jewelers, ceramicists, photographers and artisans working in glass, textiles and leather, and more.

"We look for stores that are vacant and willing to lease for a month and we pop up the store," he said in a telephone interview. "Most of the people who are going to be here this year have been here in previous years. It's almost like a family."

The art market will be open weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Yearbook Studios will open its first ever holiday pop-up shop this weekend, featuring the same candles, maple syrup and other items that got the former retail shop recommended in The New York Times' Style section.

"We just have so many people asking about so many of our products," said Jef Anderson, co-owner of the design studio.

Yearbook closed its retail shop in 2017.

"We had to decide what was practical at that point," Anderson said. The owners chose to focus solely on the design studio side of the business. "We definitely loved the store and it will be fun to see some of our fans come back and see us again," he said.

Yearbook's pop-up shop will feature scented candles, including bonfire, haberdashery, town & country, and bowery, as well as holiday ornaments, maple syrup and maybe even the famous Charles Chips potato chips that the store was once known for.

"If this does really well, we might do some short reissues of product; we'll just have to see how it rides out and everything. We're excited about it," Anderson said.

The pop-up shop will be open during the Chamber of Commerce's annual holiday walk from 5 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Yearbook Studios, 408 Thomas. It will also be open from 10 a.m. till "whenever we sell out" on Dec. 1, Anderson said. Crain's Chicago Business included Yearbook's pop-up in its "the holiday pop-up shops you need to know" list this year.
