It is not often that an organization gets a chance to address same emergency in the same month, but Monday and Tuesday’s predicted deep freeze give both Oak Park schools and its post office that very opportunity. Whatever they did wrong they have the opportunity to correct. coincidentally both emergencies happened on a Monday. At least this time there will not be a foot of new fallen snow.
This is relatively easy for District 97 and 200. If you closed 3 weeks ago because you feared for student safety in 40 degree below windchill, then you close again for minus 40 degree below windchill. I suppose you do have some concern that you will have to make up these days at the end of the school but the prospect of frost bitten children trumps that and other concerns.
Now the post office is another story. It failed to deliver mail for a week last time, and people were really mad. The problems were multiple, but lots of mail carriers were sick, called in sick, couldn’t get in or used personal days. One could speculate the same folks might not show up again. I’m sure morale is terrible. Almost certainly streets and sidewalks will be more accessible this time than last. We shall see.
I thought do overs were only for youth sports. Looks like the post office is going to get a do over of its own.
