There is a contretemps on Madison Street that needs immediate conversation and reconciliation. It involves Robinson's Bar & Grill, the updated version of the iconic Robinson's #1 Ribs, which has been at home on this street since the 1980s.

The proposal to construct a three-story apartment building on vacant land at Madison Street and Lyman is a pure win for neighbors and for the village. Approval should sail through and initial construction could begin this year.

Pleasant is as amiable a name as you'll find on a street sign in this village — with the possible exception of Fair Oaks (certain streets editorialize), or Home itself for that matter. Pleasant Street is a straight grid shot from the cul-de-sac at Austin Boulevard all the way to Oak Park Avenue — and worth the walk — but then it jogs.

Oak Park.com, powered by Wednesday Journal, has reported that a Nov. 6 advisory referendum will ask Oak Parkers if the village should further study consolidating village government with three other taxing bodies — Oak Park Township, the Park District of Oak Park and the Oak Park Public Library.
I am 69 years old. For all of my life I have believed that my mother got married to a stunt pilot who met her at his performance at the Mercer County Fair in Harrodsburg, Kentucky when she was a teenager sometime in the 1930s.

What is the justification for spending tax dollars to ask voters whether the village should study ways to save money? [Consolidation vote headed to the ballot, News, Aug. 1]. Duh. Of course we're all in favor of studying ways to save money.

In 1963 my wife Barbara and I moved to Oak Park and we met Dominic Mayo, who was then the CEO of United Way, also known as the Community Chest. His favorite line was, "Every generation must build its own courthouse."

So … walk, run, swim, do yoga, stretch, lift weights, eat fish, do yoga, eat yogurt, do yoga while eating yogurt, eat chocolate, drink coffee, have sex, do yoga, don't watch too much TV, drink red wine, sleep more, sleep less, do yoga.
